Historic Home Window Trim

East Nashville bungalows, Germantown Victorians, and Belmont-Hillsboro Tudor cottages deserve trim that fits. We match original profiles and use materials that hold up.

  • Profile matching with profile gauges and custom milling
  • Epoxy consolidation of original decorative pieces
  • Material blends — wood where it shows, PVC where water hits
  • Sensitive paint sheens and color matching

Why historic homes need a different approach

Off-the-shelf 1x4 stock looks wrong on a Craftsman bungalow or an Italianate Victorian even if the dimensions are close. Trim proportions, profile depths, and decorative details define the character of the home. Get those wrong and the repair shows from the curb.

Neighborhoods we work in

  • East Nashville — Craftsman bungalows with wide flat casings and projecting heads
  • Germantown — Italianate and Victorian homes with decorative head pieces and ogee profiles
  • Belmont-Hillsboro & 12 South — Craftsman, Tudor, and Colonial Revival mixes
  • Inglewood & Madison — Post-war minimal traditional and ranch homes
  • Belle Meade & Forest Hills — Larger Tudor Revival, Georgian, and French Provincial homes

How we match original trim

Profile gauges first

We pull a profile off an intact piece before sourcing anything. Even quarter-inch differences in depth or curve are visible once painted.

Repair before replace

Original decorative trim is often irreplaceable. Where it's possible, we consolidate damaged wood with epoxy and rebuild missing sections rather than throw the original piece away.

Smart material blends

For visible front-facade trim we lean toward matched wood. For sills, aprons, and walls that take the worst weather, PVC or composite gives us decades of life without the look giving anything away.

Period-correct finishes

Sheen and color matter. Satin or low-gloss usually reads correct for historic trim. High-gloss almost never does.

Carpenter bees, ivy, and other historic-home headaches

Older soft-wood trim is what carpenter bees prefer, and many historic homes have ivy holding moisture against the trim. We address both during repair so the work isn't undone the next season.

Working with HOAs and historic overlays

Several Nashville neighborhoods sit inside historic overlays with design review. We're happy to work within those guidelines and document what's being changed.
